I am in the process of healing leaky gut, but also have PCOS and adrenal fatigue. Thanks

I found when I started maca (1 teaspoon per day) my depression and anxiety got substantially worse around that time of the month. I really enjoy the taste of maca and what to balance my hormones. What you would advise?

The exhaustion and depression came back and the hot flashes continued to do their thing , so obviously I recommenced the macca . The hot flashes are actually better now , still going but not so obvious and overwhelming, What I have noticed though is that consuming any sugar foods increases the hot flashes especially at night, and that any kind of exercise decreases them. i would love to know if there have been any studies on hot flashes and what effects them, I’ve talked to several women about this and it doesn’t seem uncommon for them to go on for a decade or more !!! Surely the human body is better designed than this why are most women suffering like this yet others barely notice apart from their periods stopping ??.

I would think raw, but you link to the gelatinized product when you say what you use. I am curious as to why you would choose the gelatinized over the raw? Wouldn’t the gelatinized have some of the nutrients and enzymes destroyed?

It should be fine in small amounts because maca is a real food. I would also supplement with ashwagandha. You can read about it’s health benefits here: https://draxe.com/nutrition/ashwagandha-benefits/

I am making bone broth now and began taking ashwaganda but is it ok to also take maca root too? I am low on energy despite eating gluten free for over 2 years. I have also been Paleo for 2 months. I want to regain the old me so I can work out regularly beyond brisk walking and be and feel healthy!

I feel this is due to a severe case of candida over growth I’ve been battling since April. It has caused all sorts of digestion issues, bladder and UT issues and prostate issues. Though things are on the up and up, I notice above the high carbohydrate level, is Maca safe to take at this time since sugars and carbs are to be avoided? Also, I bought the Maca because of its potential affect on the health of the prostate, does the yellow Maca help with this? Or just the red? The maca in the capsule appears to be yellow. Thank your for your time.

It increased my hot flashes and I felt worse. Can also raise blood pressure. Once again everything is trial and error. For me the best answer for menopause has been Vitamin E and fish oil.

Yes. But I do think Ashwagandha is an even better option for thyroid issues so that is what I recommend to my patients as you can read here: https://draxe.com/nutrition/ashwagandha-benefits/

Also, read the bottom of this article about cruciferous vegetables and thyroid function: https://draxe.com/nutrition/cruciferous-vegetables-cancer-thyroid/

That is something you would need to consult your physician about. But maca is an adaptogen so it should work by helping bring your body and hormones back into balance.

Maca is LIKELY SAFE for most people when taken in amounts found in foods. Maca is POSSIBLY SAFE when taken in larger amounts as medicine (up to 3 grams daily) for up to four months. Maca seems to be well tolerated by most people.

Pregnancy and breast-feeding: Not much is known about maca and pregnancy. Maca is a root vegetable and is very much like a radish so for most people it’s not much different than eating any other food is consumed in moderation around 1 gram a day. But I always recommend talking to your physician. If you are worried about it I would recommend to stay off it during pregnancy and add it back in later.

I would always consult with your physician, but remember maca is a food just like everything else we eat. It’s a radish and so if taken in moderation around 1 gram daily is not much different than eating a root vegetable.

In addition, I had my gall bladder removed back in 2000. Most doctors are not aware of this Maca Powder and do not know how to answer questions regarding this remarkable radish. I am 53 years old and interested in trying Maca Powder. I read that maca regulates hormones. Please explain and is it safe for me.
